01 funivia monte baldo malcesine

History

Lake Garda has long been regarded as a true wonder of nature. Due to its advantageous location, it truly is a gem set in a landscape reminiscent of a Norwegian fjord.

In order to support and promote the tourism that animates one of the most renowned places in Italy and the world, the Azienda Trasporti Funicolari Malcesine - Monte Baldo, also known as Funivia Monte Baldo Malcesine was founded in 1955 by the Consortium formed by the Province and the Chamber of Commerce I.A.A. of Verona with the Municipality of Malcesine.

This extraordinary institution is not only a tourist destination that keeps the mountain economy alive, but it also creates jobs for the local community.

The Board of Directors, which is made up of members from the social and economic organisations that operate on Lake Garda and in the Municipality of Baldo, operates with great sensitivity and respect for this unique and lovely place.

Between 1962 and 2001, the Funivia Malcesine Monte Baldo transported over 6 million passengers, providing them with an unparalleled experience. When it came time to consider upgrading the lift, a look into the future prompted a lengthy and detailed design phase based on research conducted by the respected Faculty of Engineering at the University of Trento. In other words, it was the creation of something truly unique that represents the success that can now be seen by one and all.

On July 24, 2002, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, the new Baldo Cable Car was inaugurated, presenting to the world its astonishing transformation. At first glance, what strikes the observer the most are the futuristic designs of its stations as they ascend skywards. These are structures with distinct architectural features combining stone, steel, wood, and glass to enhance the transparency and brightness of the interior spaces while fitting in with their surroundings.

The history of this cable car is made even more fascinating by the fact that while General Alberto Pariani ordered the construction of the first Funivia Malcesine Monte Baldo, which was inaugurated on September 30, 1962, in front of Head of State Antonio Segni, no one could have predicted what fate had in store for this marvel of modern engineering.

The project's backers certainly never imagined that the Funivia Malcesine-Monte Baldo would rank among the most popular in the world after sixty years of operation thanks to the building of a brand-new, state-of-the-art structure.

The chance to soar on the wings of the wind, poised between heaven and earth, encompassed by the majesty of the natural surroundings, between the peaks of Monte Baldo and the dazzling waters of Lake Garda, still fascinates tourists from all over the globe.

Whether you love mountains or lakes, the Malcesine-Monte Baldo Cable Car awaits you to embark on an unforgettable journey. Allows its history, modern architecture, and unmatched scenery to captivate you. Then, prepare to soar towards new experiences and discover the enchantment of Lake Garda.

Welcome aboard the extraordinary voyage towards infinity!
