FAQ of Funivia Malcesine Monte Baldo / Malcesine Monte Baldo Cable Car
The cable car runs every 30 minutes starting at 8:15 am. This timetable is valid for the summer season from March 30th, 2024, to November 3rd, and for the winter season 2024/25 will remain closed for extraordinary maintenance.
The cable car closes on 3rd November. In the second and third week of October, the closing time is brought forward by 2 hours.
The cable car ride from Malcesine to Monte Baldo lasts about 20 minutes. The same applies for the return trip.
Dogs may ride in the car with a muzzle and leash. The muzzle is handed out at the ticket office. More than one dog may be transported at the same time. Dogs owned by different individuals or keepers must be placed in the cabin by the driver so they are kept as far apart as possible and to avoid any contact. Strollers may be carried in the car upon presenting the ticket. They do not need to be closed.
There are 24 bicycle spots per hour. We recommend reserving your spot in the cable car in advance.
The downhill cable car station has a two-level covered car park with 170 spaces. In addition, other parking is available for a fee near the Malcesine departure station and the San Michele intermediate station.
The Seggiovia Prà Alpesina/Prà Alpesina Chairlift can be easily reached from the uphill cable car station with a 30-minute walk. Once you take the chairlift, you will reach the valley on the opposite side of Monte Baldo. The chairlift can also be reached from the Trentino side, from the provincial road about 15 km from Avio.
The first cabin leading from Malcesine to the San Michele intermediate station holds a maximum of 45 people, while the cabin that leads from the San Michele intermediate station to Monte Baldo holds a maximum of 80 people.
The maximum number of people who can ride one chair is 4 if they are skiers and a maximum of 2 if they are pedestrians. Children under 8 or under 1.20m must be accompanied by their parents.
Malcesine Castle is located in the historic centre of the town and can be reached in 5 minutes on foot from the downhill cable car station following the road to Malcesine.
Useful information for a pleasant and safe excursion
Do not let the ease of ascending from Lake Garda to 1800 metres asl cause you to forget or disregard certain behavioural guidelines in order to truly appreciate the mountains.
- The weather can change suddenly in the mountains. Make sure you bring appropriate clothing, hiking shoes, a hat, water, and snacks.
- Follow paths that are appropriate for your own fitness level. Do not underestimate the mountains, and do not act rashly.
- Check the weather conditions and difficulty of the trail you plan on walking. Make sure you have the necessary equipment.
- If you are planning a strenuous hike, do not go alone. Inform family members or the hotel where you are staying about your chosen destination, itinerary, and expected time of return.
- Do not stray from the marked paths
- Do not move or alter signs
- Respect the flowers and plants
- Do not move stones or roll boulders
- Do not pester the animals
- Keep dogs leashed to prevent them from frightening people and dispersing grazing livestock.
- Do not light fires
- If picnicking, collect your trash and take it with you
- Mountain biking is not permitted in meadows, pastures, forests, ski slopes, ski lifts, and footpaths
